May 2023 Lawn of the Month:Ronald Archer
14025 Ashmill Drive Mr. Archer maintains everything himself, utilizing concepts his dad taught him long ago. He alternates the direction he mows in each time, fertilizes every 2 months with Scott’s products, uses weed killer 3x per year, adds Milorganite, aerates and seeds yearly, and waters the lawn 3x a week for 1/2 hour each time. Collington Holiday Festive HouseKelly McMillen and Cody Mayhew of 11306 Longtown Dr (Longtown section) are the Collington Holiday House Festive Award Winners for 2022. They have lived in Collington for four and a half years and just love Christmas and the holidays. Once their decorating process begins it takes them about 45 hours to complete, but the job is never really done. They love to add new things as they find them. Their house eves are decked out with red and white lights, while strings of white lights cover their roof and surround the windows. They have inflatables of all shapes and sizes including a monsterous Santa Claus, Nutcracker, and Snowman. Lights adorn the perimeter of their yard to help see all of their hard work. Collington Holiday Classic HouseJon and Beth Frankenfield of 11019 Collington Dr. (Tealby section) are the Collington Holiday House Classic Award Winners for 2022. They have lived in Collington for 6 years. This year their kids asked for color instead of their typical all white lights and icicles. But they maintained the general aesthetic (simple lines and clean look). They took the time to test all the strands, measure everything, and figure out where each strand should go on the house. Once they had a general plan, they rented a boom lift and started the process of putting up the lights. It took most of the day to get the lights across the peaks and roofline using the lift. Then used a tall ladder for the windows and lights down the verticals. Their porch and mailbox are covered with pre-lit garland that can change color. Many extension cords later (of which figuring out the best way to run them all was one of the biggest hurdles) and the house was done. Overall, it takes several days to get everything up, but it's worth the time in the end to see the house lit up - you can see their house as soon as you turn onto Collington Drive entering Tealby.
All of their house lines including windows are outlined in simple strings of colored lights. The bushes in the front and the sidewalk are adorned with colored lights. This is a great throwback to when string lights were first becoming available to the masses and were available in a variety of colors. 10000 Brightstone Drive—Sheila Fischer September 2022 Lawn of the Month10513 Pembrooke Dock Place—Debra Wilkinson
Lawn of the Month - Ty and Mo Reese 100212 Lavenham TurnWhat a gorgeous, thick lawn! Ty works hard to achieve such perfection. He keeps the mower deck at 5 inches to keep the lawn healthy—any shorter and the lawn would be prone to disease. He also does not bag his grass clippings, instead mulching them into the lawn when he mows weekly. He also sets his sprinklers to go off before the sun rises, in order to allow the water to sink into the roots. Ty avoids watering during the day to prevent the water droplets from burning the grass. He hires a lawn company to handle the fertilization schedule. Yard of the Month - Shakil Rehman 14100 Hockliffe LaneThis beautiful landscaping belongs to Shakil Rehman. What a lovely combination of roses, hostas , crape myrtles, a precisely trimmed evergreens. Thank you for keeping Collington looking great, Shakil!
